Kevin Poenicke 7th We start the class by collecting the rest of the 1984 books that the rest of us who are more than happy to get those old rag-tag antiques out of our possession. Then, we preceded to take out our dialogue entries from Canto 5 along with the readings. We start discussion by re-capping what we read in the first 2 Cantos. All of these mythical creatures are difficult to understand and for that matter even pronounce. Students put in their comments here and there as we slowly make our way through class. We should already be out! It's a Wednesday! Remember late start days? I didn't like those. Mr. Becker keeps reminding us to read the footnotes provided to us in the readings. We break out into a little "footnote" (if you will) about the story of Scrooge; relating it to the readings and Dante. I sit, admiring the hand-drawn timelines and maps of so much color that our thoughtful teacher has illustrated for us to better understand the story. He sums up the sections we were skipping, everyone leaves excited for our half day tomorrow, but for me it's off to my house, then; naptime.

Lauren S., 1st hour

It was Wednesday morning; the week was almost half way over with. Each student reluctantly forced themselves out of bed in order to arrive on time to Mr. Becker’s class. It was discussion day! One by one the students filed into class, still half asleep. As everyone sat quietly in their desks, the yawns became contagious throughout the room and eyes grew sleepy. The thought of returning back to my bed ran through my mind. Unfortunately, my mind checked back into reality and made it clear that there was no way that would happen. It was time to wake up and engage into the discussion of Canto V. As everyone scurried to get their responses finished, Mr. Becker took attendance and got things in order so that class could begin. Then, everyone was asked to get out their text responses from the previously read Canto so they could be checked. As soon as Mr. Becker finished checking everyone’s responses, the discussion started. Our class, quiet as always, had a tough time getting the discussion flowing. But everyone knew that we had to meet our class goal of 82% participation. Unfortunately, not enough people spoke up in order for us to reach our goal. The discussion continued and people shared their thoughts about the reading and many questions were asked. After the class was happy with the discussion for the day, it quickly came to a close. Not too long after the discussion ended, the announcements came on. The bell sounded and class was dismissed at last.
