Janna Kannard 1st- Wow, the first day of October rapidly approached and as I walked into school today, all I could think about is after these seven class periods… its time for fall break! I was not at school at the beginning of the week due to tennis so the thought of quarter grades being pulled and catching up on what I had missed was a bit stressful. I was glad when Mr. Becker informed us that the class period would be devoted to working on our papers after a few reminders and our reflection of our first quarter goal. Mr. Becker sadly informed the class that we did not earn the prize of the pizza party, but it seemed that the class was already aware of this information. Mr. Becker stood in front of the class and asked for suggestions of how we could improve the goal so that next quarter we could achieve it. Not many expressed their opinions, as usual until one brave soul expressed her opinion about class participation, without fear of being judged by the rest of the class. “ I have no faith in this class” she stated, this statement might offend one, but she said it boldly and without hesitation. While the rest of the class pondered their classmates expressed opinion, a newspaper representative delivered a survey for the class to take that interrupted their thoughts. Ironically the survey had a slight connection with the novel. It wanted you to state your deepest fears. Many of my classmates did not really feel the need to take part in this survey but a handful of people did. Mr. Becker made it clear that he was not the one that was going to read them and attempted to turn it into a joke. “Put your deepest fears in the box and never look back on them” he stated, some laughed while many just ignored it and went on with the survey or began working on their first drafts. “Last day to asks questions before the paper is due” exclaimed Mr. Becker but not many took the opportunity to ask any questions and just worked steadily on their papers trying to put a dent in them before the start of fall break. Towards the end of the class everyone was finishing their last sentences and couldn’t wait for the bell to ring… six class periods left!

Katherine L. 3rd hour

We all walk into class and settle ourselves down and then Collyn proceeds to do her connection. She starts by explaining to us what we're going to watch, we watched the trailer for "the experiment" and it looked very interesting. She then proceeded to explain to us how it relates to "1984". After Collyn's connection was Chris's connection, for his connection we watched a movie clip for "V for Vendetta" and he explained to us that in this movie they have something that is kind of like a telescreen. In the video clip, a guy breaks into the tv stations so that everyone in the country can watch it and he talks about their freedoms and what is wrong with the country. Mr. Becker then tells us that we have achieved our class goal and that our reward is that our class will be put into a drawing for different prizes. He then asks us to raise our goal or change it completely so that we will be a bit more challenged and we all decide to raise our goal to 96.5% attendance. Mr. Becker then has us go over our sample papers that we received yesterday. We went over all the key points for organization and we gave the paper a 3 on organization. We then moved on to idea development, this paper scored a 3 on idea development also. After we were done going over the sample papers, Mr. Becker went over the last two notecards so that we could meet Collyn and Ian. With 5 minutes left of class, we all pack up and anxiously await the ring of the bell
