Jenna L., 1st Hour
As I walk into class, I realized that I was not the only student with a blank, sleepy stare. It was obvious everyone enjoyed their three day weekend with the fabulous weather. We set our class goal which is to have at least a 95% participation on each class discussion. With the paper each student had to take off the table, we learned the seven different ways to embed quotes. Not only did we learn about this, but Mr. Becker put a funny twist to it. Just think of a Nissan Versa when using comma's to embed quotes, it's not too flashy. And the Cadillac of all quotes is blending, it's smooth to use. I got a kick out of this, it almost made me laugh. To practice, we used any passage from the book to use on each embedding meathod. Everyone is silent trying to get their work done, I thought I heard a pin drop. Before you know it, the announcements came on with the bell soon following after.

Emily K, 7th Hour

It's 7th hour, it's been a rough day. Although it is a Tuesday, it still feels like one of those dreadful Mondays since we were off for Labor Day yesterday. As I walk into the classroom, I remember that we have a discussion tomorrow. I'm thinking "okay, perfect, we have all class to read our 5th section!" Little did I know, I was wrong. Since we had to grab a paper off the front table, I knew today was different. We had a lot more planned than I thought for the day. The first thing on the agenda was listed as 'Set Class Goal.' Some people had an idea of what this was since they may have done it in their other classes; while on the other hand, some were a bit confused. Mr. Becker gave us some ideas of what our class goal could be. After a while of explaining, he asked for some suggestions we could use. Everyone stared in silence. Just then, one brave soul raised their hand and shared a potential goal. Of course, no one else wanted to share anything, so we voted between Mr. Becker's idea, and the student's. The class chose the student's goal and agreed that the final decision would be to have a class average of 78% or higher for the quarter. Mr. Becker then went on to tell us that if we accomplished our goal then our class would be put into a drawing for a prize that was still undecided. Just as we were choosing, yet another Counselor Aide walked in just like almost every other day. Thankfully it was almost time for us to transition to the next thing on the agenda. We finished up the Goal Setting then looked at the SMART Board. The next thing on the agenda was listed was 'Embedding Quotes.' Mr. Becker told us to look at the paper we picked up at the beginning of class. We went over the front side which was 7 different ways to embed a quote and then were assigned to finish the back. Although it is not due until Thursday, everyone quickly began to write. We were told if we turn it in on time and it is 100% correct, we will receive 13 out of 10. If we go back and have to fix it once we will receive 10 out of 10 and so on. Sounds like a good opportunity for extra credit to me. Just as I am ready to begin my worksheet, I look up there is only 5 minutes left. This almost seems pointless to begin a worksheet, so I put together all of my papers and wait for the clock to reach 2:20. Our next discussion is tomorrow, hopefully everyone is ready!
