J. Becker--all hours

The notecards began every class,
and many a question I asked.
They answered politely,
delivered quite nicely
their stories both present and past.

Next, from the syllbus read I,
spoke 'til every student was red-eyed.
They listened intently,
or faked it so gently,
I felt like a word-working deadeye.

I explained that the choice they had made
would prepare them for what still yet lay
in their future endeavors.
The pains and the pleasures
of English IV WILL some day pay.

I then hit the details of Scribe Notes,
hitting the low and the high notes,
all year we will write
and develop our minds
like an embryo grows from a zygote.

Last, I gave them the Quick & the Dirty.
Yet again, I was prob'ly too wordy.
But you seemed to all grasp
the import of the task,
Even if you think English is nerdy.
